Resilience
It is hard to believe that just over three weeks ago I was living 700 miles away in Southwest Oklahoma. Yet here I am today, honored to serve as the school administrator for Crescent City Christian School and the Celebration Christian School System. During my brief three weeks serving in this position, I have had the opportunity to learn a great deal about Crescent City Christian School and its many wonderful faculty, staff, and students. One thing that stands strong is the fact that Crescent City Christian School is far more than the building bearing its name. It is the community it represents.
When I was interviewing for the position of school administrator, one of the questions I was asked was regarding why someone from southwest Oklahoma would be interested in coming to a place like New Orleans. For me, this was an easy question to answer. It is the people. The people of New Orleans and likewise the faculty, staff, and students of CCCS exhibit a strong sense of resilience. They have experienced adversity, and yet they continue to stand back up, each time being just a little bit stronger than the last. Why is it that some individuals are knocked down once and never rise again? Yet there are others who defy the odds and rise to their feet time and time again. The world has searched tirelessly for answers to this timeless question, but as Christians, we know the answer lies outside ourselves. Scripture tells us it is in our weakness that He is made strong (2 Corinthians 12:9-11). It is God who lifts us to our feet. It is God who renews our strength (Isaiah 40:31).
Crescent City Christian School faces many challenges in the days ahead, but it is in these challenges that we find exciting opportunities to grow not only as individuals but as a community as well. I hope that as we look to the future, we will remember the foundation upon which this school was built – a foundation built upon the Word of God and the love of Jesus Christ – and that we will seek to glorify God and support one another in all that we endeavor to do. I look forward to working alongside each one of you as we seek God’s plan for the future of Crescent City Christian School.
